Helping Haiti

21 January 2010 No Comment

BALLAHOO RESTAURANT organized a fun wine-tasting fundraiser last night in support of Haiti Earthquake Relief efforts. By the end of the evening, more than 100 people had donated in excess of EC $5,000 – just by attending the event!

All proceeds from the event will be deposited to the Haiti Solidarity Fund established at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank.

First up on the tasting menu was the crisp and aromatic Trivento VIOGNIER Tribu (Mendoza, Argentina), which turned out to be an interesting “wine discovery” experience for quite a few guests who ended up adding a new grape to their “vino-cabulary”.

Marques de Caceres ROSADO (Rioja, Spain) was up next, in all of its refreshingly dry rosé glory, followed by the smooth and fleshy Marques de Caceres CRIANZA (Rioja, Spain). Bringing up the rear was the sweet, bubbly, strawberry delight of the night – Fresita (Chile + Patagonia).

In addition to the funds collected at the door, a painting by Rosie Cameron was put on the auction block and fetched some extra money for the cause.

Overall, it was an outstanding night of great hors d’ouvres and wine in support of our friends, family and neighbours in Haiti.
